Exterior

While the XUV400 is based on the XUV300, it is not a sub-four metre SUV. Measuring 4200mm in length, 1634mm in height, 1821mm in width and offering a 2600mm long wheelbase, in size, the XUV400 is competing with cars from a higher price segment, like the MG ZS EV.

Most of its design is similar to the XUV300, however, it looks better proportioned and offers more road presence as well. As you’d expect, a major change is the replacement of the front grille with a closed panel and the car also sports copper difference finishers that will be seen on the inside and out. Other highlights include projector halogen headlights, LED tail lights and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior

The interiors of the XUV400 receives an all-black interior as well as bronze accents on the AC vents and centre console. The gear lever has also been replaced with a drive selector while other features of the new electric SUV remain unchanged from the XUV300. Other features that remain unchanged include the touchscreen infotainment system and electric sunroof.

Space inside the cabin has remained unchanged as well and you can expect good legroom in the rear. The boot space takes advantage of the extended length, increasing to 378 litres. With the increased boot space, the XUV400 length fixes the issue of a small boot space on the XUV300 that has been a negative for the fuel-powered compact SUV.

SAFETY

At the core of the XUV400, is a Global NCAP 5-star crash safety rated platform. Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, all wheel disc brakes and more. The battery itself is IP67 rated and has been tested in extreme weather conditions as well.

BOOTSPACE

Boot space stands at 378 litres, going up to 418 litres when measured up to the roofline.

CHARGING

The XUV400’s 39.4kWh battery delivers a claimed travel range of up to 456km. With a 50KW DC fast charger it can go from 0-80 percent in approximately 50 minutes. A 7.2kW wall box AC fast-charger can fully-charge the XUV400 in 6.5 hours, while a 3.3kW manages this in 13 hours. The last option is a portable charger that can be plugged into any 16A domestic power outlet.

PERFORMANCE

The XUV400’s electric motor produces 150PS and 310Nm, enabling a 0-100kmph time of 8.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest Indian-made cars. Given how this is an electric car, you can expect a lag-free and smooth drive experience with a single-speed transmission driving the front wheels.
