The Indian car market and SUVs have become synonymous in recent times. And to be accurate, it is not just the full-size SUV market that's on a boom, but the compact segment that is serving as the centre stage in this growth. Now several automakers have jumped into the segment hoping to milk the trend and one of the most interesting developments around the segment has been the new Grand Vitara which comes out as a joint development from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. While it is still a good few weeks away from the official launch, I was among the lucky ones to have a wide look at the upcoming SUV and that too at the company's very own Research and Development facility test tracks located in Rohtak, Haryana. But before proceeding, let me inform you that this isn't a proper first ride review but just initial impressions as I got the chance to drive the vehicle in a restricted, well-planted land which is just used for testing purposes.
